Compliments for, or complaints against, a police officer are registered through the Civilian Office of Police Accountability (COPA) website, which is owned and operated by the Civilian Office of Police Accountability
(COPA). COPA is an independent department of the City of Chicago staffed with the civilian investigators. They are responsible for the intake and investigation of all allegations of police misconduct. Its service
is structured to promote cooperative relationships of trust and responsibility between citizens and the police.
All incidents registered through COPA's Online Complaint System are processed, investigated and maintained independent of the Chicago Police Department and the CLEARpath web portal.
